Course Description:  The Sports Medicine Conference provides in-depth evidence-based study of sports medicine problems. The various topics cover knowledge regarding diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of sport medicine injuries.

Objectives:  

1. Define surgical anatomy of the foot and ankle

2. Describe pertinent history, examination, and imaging

3. Explain conservative, arthroscopic, and open surgical options with post-operative bracing and rehabilitation

Athletic Trainers 

Andrews Research & Education Foundation P10024 is approved by the Board of Certification, Inc. to provide continuing education to Athletic Trainers. This program is eligible for a maximum of 1 Category A hours/CEUs. ATs should claim only those hours actually spent in the educational program.

Sonya Ahmed, MD

Orthopedic Surgeon

Sonya Ahmed, M.D is a board-certified Orthopedic Surgeon who specializes in treating disorders of the foot and ankle. Dr. Ahmed graduated from the University of Missouri Kansas City’s School of Medicine through a six-year combined BA/MD program. During her residency in Orthopedic surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch, she received the Hutchings Endowed Scholarship Award for Academic Excellence in Orthopedic Surgery. Dr. Ahmed completed her Fellowship at the American Sports Medicine Institute under Drs. James Andrews, Angus McBryde, John Gould, and John Kirchner, allowing her to treat all levels of athletes. She currently practices at Nilssen Orthopedics Foot & Ankle Center in Pensacola, FL where she is the Co-Director of Foot and Ankle Orthopedic Surgery.
