Course Description:  The Sports Medicine Conference provides in-depth evidence-based study of sports medicine problems. The various topics cover knowledge regarding diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of sport medicine injuries.

Dr. James Paci

James M. Paci, MD joined the Orlin and Cohen Orthopedic Group asthe Director of Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine for Suffolk County in2018 and is an Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the Donald andBarbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. He is a board-certifiedsports medicine orthopedic surgeon specializing in the care of athletes anddisorders of the shoulder, elbow and knee. Dr. Paci is the head team physicianand medical director for the PAL Junior Islanders Ice Hockey, and FarmingdaleState College, and an orthopedic consultant for many high schools on LongIsland. Dr. Paci is a member of the Suffolk County, Section XI Sports SafetyCommittee, and Vice President of the Andrews Sports Medicine Fellowship AlumniBlind Squirrel Society.

Prior to joining Orlin andCohen, Dr. Paci was a member of Stony Brook Orthopedic Associates and anAssociate Professor in the Department of Orthopedics within the Stony BrookUniversity School of Medicine. During that time, Dr. Paci was a team orthopedicphysician for the Stony Brook University Seawolves. He has also served as ateam physician for the New York Riptide, NLL professional lacrosse team, NewYork Lizards (MLL), Long Island University, Dowling College and Suffolk CountyCommunity College and as an orthopedic consultant for the Premier LacrosseLeague.

Dr. Paci completed anorthopedic sports medicine fellowship at the American Sports Medicine Institute(ASMI) in Birmingham, Alabama, under the direction of Dr. James Andrews, wherehe received the 2009-2010 award for excellence in clinical research. In Birmingham,Dr. Paci was the team physician for Huntingdon College and Bessemer Academy,and assisted with the care of athletes from the University of Alabama, AuburnUniversity, the Washington Redskins football team, and the Montgomery Biscuits(AA) and Birmingham Barons (AA) baseball teams.

Dr. Paci received hisundergraduate degree from Yale University.  He continued his education atthe Chicago Medical School where he received his medical degree. He then wenton to complete his orthopedic surgery residency at SUNY Upstate Medical Universityin Syracuse, New York, where he was Chief Resident from 2008-2009. While inSyracuse, Dr. Paci assisted in the care of the Syracuse Crunch ice hockey team(AHL), the Syracuse Chiefs baseball team (AAA), the SUNY Cortland Universityathletic program and the Onondaga Community College athletic program.

Dr. Paci has presentedresearch and lectured at numerous national orthopedic and sports medicineconferences. He has also authored research publications, book chapters andeducational videos in topics related to orthopedics and sports medicine. Inaddition to his clinical and team coverage responsibilities, Dr. Paci currentlyperforms clinical and biomechanical research at the Feinstein Institute forMedical Research at Northwell Health.  He holds national and internationalpatents and has introduced multiple surgical innovations being used worldwide,including the Loop-n-Tack Biceps Tenodesis and the Paci Knotless FootprintCompression Distal Triceps Repair.

Dr. Paci has been recognizedannually, since 2021, with the prestigious Castle Connolly’s Top Doctor Award.
